Thin-Client Deployment

eTopia offers leading-edge technology, using a thin client (Web Browser) architecture with optimum performance and minimal investment. A physician can quickly access the eTopia system using low-cost infrastructure of the Internet, with security built in. Physicians can minimize their capital costs because there is no requirement to invest in additional software or hardware. Many electronic medical records boast of being a thin client but require use of Citrix or other third party software which impacts performance and makes installation and upgrades cumbersome.

eTopia supports a truly thin client implementation without additional installation of other third-party software. This option allows the physician to access the entire electronic medical record through a standard web browser, providing full functionality in a secure and immediate response time mode.

In a thin-client environment, physicians can have multiple applications/windows open at one time - this is critical in an environment where clinicians are routinely interrupted by urgent situations and need to move from application to application easily, without an risk of data loss.

Architecture environment

All of eTopia's features are available remotely - imagine being able to complete your clinical documentation anywhere, anytime. Our software is remotely hosted at a secure data center that provides for additional scalability, failover capabilities and regular backup of all your data. eTopia can be hosted on any platform and any Operating System. All this is accomplished through an advanced three-tier architecture that employs the latest technologies for application hosting:

  • The Database Tier access the database which is hosted on a Dell PowerEdge Server with a Dual Core Xeon Processor 5050, with additional scalability for mirrored RAID and additional storage capacity.
  • The Application Tier is J2EE compliant and all logic is processed through this Tier. The application servers area also hosted on Dell PowerEdge servers, running on Windows Server Operating systems. Regular backups are performed at the primary and secondary sites in the event that failover to the secondary data center is required.
  • At the web server level, eTopia uses Java and web services that allow retrieval of data from the Application Tier to be presented to the client device that only requires a standard browser (e.g., internet explorer). Other remote devices are also supported.
  • The Database Tier access the database which is hosted on a Dell PowerEdge Server with a Dual Core Xeon Processor 5050, with additional scalability for mirrored RAID and additional storage capacity.

Advantages of thin-client

A thin client environment avoids client installation on each workstation and it can be assessed anywhere anytime provided internet connection. eTopia facilitates a secure HL7 interface and network printing capabilities. HL7 is supported for inbound and outbound messages. Additionally, complete remote administration, monitoring and updating for ongoing support is enabled in a thin client environment.

"Recently I had forgotten to change my password during the expiration period. I called my eTopia Support Staff Contact and within second she was able to reset my password for me so that I could quickly access the patient information I needed at that time. As a small practice, I don't have the luxury of having on-site IT staff - with eTopia I don't need to." Virginia Podiatrist on advantages of eTopia software.

eTopia's thin-client environment offers a secure and stable architecture and is independent of database and hardware platforms. Additionally, the environment allows for physicians to continue to access their system even during routine maintenance and software upgrades are required.

eTopia offers multiple levels of security including a secure socket layer and user-role based privileges which allow an office to define what information is available to each medical staff member, front desk, and other office staff.

Mobile Rollout

A thin- client environment facilitates complete mobility for the physician, allowing them to access their patient data anywhere and anytime - you have complete mobility.
